The United States Mint is ready for the release of the 2022 One Ounce Proof American Gold Buffalo coin today beginning at 12pm EST. Limited to 16,000 in both mintage and product, the West Point Minted coin will be available for $2,790.
Struck in 24-karat gold and comprised of 99.99% gold, the coin design is based on the original 1913 Type 1 Buffalo nickel created by James Earle Fraser. The obverse depicts a profile of a Native American with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “W,” and “2022” surrounding the portrait. The reverse features the American Buffalo (some people believe to be modeled after the bison Black Diamond) and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “$50,” “1 OZ.,” and “.9999 FINE GOLD.”
The coin will be featured in a beautiful Proof finish and have a $50 denomination. It will be encapsulated in a plastic capsule and come in a black presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
